NEVES – Adverse event reporting and learning system

NEVES – Adverse event reporting and learning system

The NEVES adverse event reporting and learning system has been operating in Hungary since 2006 and is constantly being developed.
Its mission is to support healthcare facilities in identifying operational weaknesses and improving patient safety.

Launch of the reporting system
and main milestones

  • 2006-2007: e-mail reports
  • 2008-2013: on-line interface, feedback with off-line processing
  • 2014-2022: on-line reporting interface with an immediate feedback system and off-line processing option
  • 2023-: reporting system updates and moving to a modern platform

The importance of recording and reporting adverse events

  • every 10th inpatient is affected
  • every 4th outpatient is affected
  • high-cost burden for the healthcare providers
  • we can learn from the analysis of the adverse events that have occurred so that further events can be prevented
  • 50-70% preventable

The NEVES adverse event reporting and learning system is anonymous, voluntary and requires registration.
So far, more than 27,000 reports have been received.
We have prepared a methodological guide for processing the reports and published analyses and recommendations on eight topics.
The methodological guide – in Hungarian – is available here: https://info.nevesforum.hu/2020/02/modszertani-utmutato-oki-kutatasok-vegzesehez/
